Good evening fellow Bitstrippers! It’s clear that the question on everyone’s mind these days is “Where’s my 1.2?!?!”. It seemed deceptively close back in May, but as the days went by we realized just how extensive all the changes were going to be. The code running the site has more than doubled in size in the next version.

So… where is it? It’s close! It will be released “soon” - and this time, I mean it! We’re in the testing phase now, finding any new bugs introduced with all the changes. All features are complete and we’re incredibly anxious to let everyone start using it.

Thanks everyone for your patience these last few months. It’s taken us longer than we would have wanted but it had to be done… you’ll soon see why!

Hello Bitstrippers! It’s been awhile… too long! We wanted to make sure that everyone knows the development team is still alive and busy busy busy on a massive update rolling out soon. It makes such a difference to the whole bitstripping experience, we’re very excited to release it. Stay tuned for more news.

In case you haven’t seen it, we made it in to this month’s Wired Playlist section, make sure to digg us while you’re there!

The early risers out there may have caught site of our “Undergoing Maintenance” header this morning as we pushed several updates to the site.

• Profile info editing has been organized, and you now have the option of displaying your real name on your profile page. Help other bitstrippers find you by making your name visible.
• The friend finder now has an option to search for friends by name. Remember - Bitstripping is better with friends!
• Searching now indexes tags and author’s names. Try it out - it makes a big difference.
• Character/Strip permissions - when you edit a strip, we now double check you have permission to use all the characters that appear. If you don’t, we’ll swap in Buddy’s basics for you.

We’ve all done it… late night comments that we don’t remember posting the next day. Good news - you don’t have to worry about your confessions and rants being visible for eternity on the site - you can now delete them. Have fun erasing your sordid comment history!

And more good news for all the users who mistiped their usernmae when signing up - you can now change your name on you account page. As long as you haven’t posted any comments or strips, your username is editable. (Be sure to remember to use your new name when logging in next time!)

That’s right boys and girls, RSS feeds are here! Most types of content can now be accessed through RSS feeds. Character appearances, your friend’s strips, even searches can all be subscribed to. We’re still sorting out where to put an “RSS” icon on the pages themselves… until then, access the RSS feed link in your browser’s location bar.

A few series fixes also arrived, you can now delete or rename a series from a series’ profile page.

In other exciting news, the scene builder has officially landed. You can now access it from the main navigation menu on the left. Check out Buddy’s scenes for a sample of the “My Scenes” management page.

Something we’ve discovered in the last month is that one man’s funny is another man’s hateful, sexually offensive, ethnically offensively, religiously offensive spam. To that end, we’ve added several new flag categories, as well as new controls to filter different types of flagged material

Flagged strips now display their flags on their thumbnail, or on the strip page. If you don’t want to see offensive strips, (or one particular type of offensive content), you can change your view settings on your account page.

Hello from Bitstrips! Several series related updates were released today, as well as a couple other changes:

• Series list was only returning 1st entry in the super comic builder, it now returns them all
• Series episode counts are now accurate (no more 4 billions!)
• Moving strips between series - on a strip page,use the “Move to Series” box to move a strip to a different series
• Genre selections are enforced, you can’t publish until you’ve picked one
• Added new type of embedding, plain <a href> & <img> links + option to view samples of how your embedded strip will look
• Quick “email my strip to friends” option, you can enter multiple emails and have the option of remembering them next time

We’ve also have a much improved comic builder heading your way - editing/copying & pasting are all accurate now. It should be landing tomorrow once we finish hammer out any final issues.

Some people have noticed that we’ve been having email issues lately, slow deliveries, non-existent confirmation messages. We’ve been having issues with two domains in particular, hotmail and yahoo. Yahoo is delaying our message deliveries, and Hotmail is swallowing them completely, without ever delivering to the user (not even in their junkmail!) - we hope to have everything resolved soon.

Hello Bitstrippers! Lots of performance improvements going on behind the scenes this week, as well as a few visible updates which we just committed:

• Confirmation when you’re about to leave a comic/character builder without saving your work
• Embedded blog viewer reads will soon be included in a comic’s view count
• Improved friend finder - search by email

We had wanted to improve the friend finder for awhile, not everyone has an accessible webmail address book, and not everyone wants to give us their password (we promise not to read your email!) - for those situations, you can now type in as many email address as you’ve got and search for them on the site.

Searching for users based on their username, and Real Name will be coming soon as well. Visit the new friend finder and check it out (you’ll need to be logged in to see it).

A few of the eggs from the update this evening:

• Comic searching - use the search box at the top right of most pages. It will search the title, text-bubbles and character names for your search terms.
• Friends thumbnail/Character list image - they’re working! They’ll update when you add/remove friends, and when you make new characters.
• You can now change your email address in your account settings.

We’ve also passed the 20,000 character mark earlier today - amazing stuff!

• lost your password? You can reset it through the site (just try logging in a couple times and then follow the link)
• your personal profile is listed in a linkable way, send the URL to your friends and they’ll view your specific profile (and not their own!)
